A Modern University With Deep Roots

Adelphi is a modern, world-class metropolitan University. Founded in Brooklyn in 1896, Adelphi was one of the first coeducational institutions of higher education in New York State; in 1929, it became the first private coeducational institution of higher education on Long Island. Since then, more than 100,000 students have earned an Adelphi degree, leaving their mark on the University and the world beyond.

We are beginning the next chapter of the Adelphi story, and we invite you to join us to be part of it.

Capitol Steps, with opening act Paws and Rewind
(Admission is free but reservations are required.)

The Capitol Steps began as a group of U.S. Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. Since they began, the Capitol Steps has recorded over 30 albums, including its latest, Mock the Vote. The group has been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS, and can be heard twice a year on NPR (National Public Radio) stations nationwide during its Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.

This year we are very pleased that Paws and Rewind, Adelphi’s student a cappella group, will be the opening act for the Capitol Steps.

Defining the Modern University Through Scholarly and Creative Works: A Showcase of Student and Faculty Works

It is a tradition to share the research activity taking place across the academy. However, through this digital showcase, we are able to share research and creative works in an innovative way using dynamic digital tools.

A dynamic digital display of current faculty and student research will appear on all digital signage across the campus for the duration of inauguration weekend, and is also available to view online. It offers an overview of how today’s faculty and students—often collaborating together—are tackling current research challenges, and it raises awareness of the forward-looking activities taking place in our classrooms, studios and labs. This showcase illustrates to visitors, as well as our campus community, the ways Adelphi is defining what it means to be a modern metropolitan university engaged with local, regional, national and international issues.
